Introducing IRBNet, Mason’s Electronic Protocol Management System
The George Mason University Office of Research Integrity & Assurance (ORIA), the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) are pleased to announce the adoption of the IRBNet suite of tools, accessible via the internet, bringing electronic protocol management, on-line submissions and many other important research oversight features to the George Mason University research community.
ORIA, the IRB, the IACUC, and the George Mason University research community have long recognized the need to reduce manual and paper-based procedures, streamline protocol submission and review processes and leverage today’s best technologies throughout the research life-cycle. As an important step toward these objectives, ORIA’s adoption of IRBNet now brings the George Mason University community a robust set of electronic tools supporting the management, submission, review and oversight of our research protocols. Some of IRBNet’s many features include electronic document management, web-based protocol sharing and collaboration, automatic notifications, electronic submissions and reviews, integrated training and credential management, and important audit capabilities including electronic revision histories, electronic signatures and event tracking.
IRBnet Live for the Mason Community as of June 6, 2013
***Beginning June 6, 2013, all protocols (including revisions and renewals) should be submitted electronically via IRBNet, and all review decision letters will be issued electronically via IRBNet. As a service to researchers, ORIA will also upload all of your previous submissions during summer 2013. You will be contacted by the office once your previous application(s) is uploaded and the office will transfer the previous application(s) as well as your approved consent documents, instruments, and other attachments to you. This will allow for all future amendments and continuing reviews to be completed online through IRBNet.***
Getting Started with IRBNet
- Upon accessing the site simply click on “New User Registration” in the top right corner.
- You will be prompted to select a user name and password and enter your contact information.
- You should select “George Mason University, Fairfax, VA” as your local institution.
- Beginning June 6, 2013, all IRB and IACUC submissions must be done through IRBnet.
- All IRB and IACUC forms may now be downloaded through IRBnet. Note that signatures are no longer required on the forms and have been replaced by digital signatures (which you will do through IRBnet upon submission).
